Incidence of microtrauma in the Achilles tendon compared in athletic runners and swimmers using diagnostic ultrasonography
Novotný, Aleš ; Routner, Petr (advisor) ; Katolický, Jakub (referee)
9 ABSTRACT INTRODUCTION: The Achilles tendon is the tendon with the most volume in the human body. It is capable of handling enormous loads, though it can be damaged with overuse. Overloading the Achilles tendon can lead to microtrauma, which can cause the development of Achilles tendinopathy. Diagnostic ultrasonography is used to investigate the incidence of microtrauma of the Achilles Tendon in runners and swimmers and whether there is any kind of correlation between their occurrence and training intensity. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to determine the presence of microtrauma in the Achilles tendon in a group of runners and swimmers using diagnostic ultrasonography. In addition to the observation of microtrauma, this study focuses on finding other Achilles tendon pathologies from overuse in runners and swimmers. This study seeks to increase awareness of the potential of using diagnostic ultrasonography in physiotherapy practice. METHODS: A total of 20 subjects (13 women and 7 men, mean age 22.6 ± 1.16 years) participated in this study. The subjects were divided into two groups of 10 swimmers and 10 runners each. Data collection was carried out at a private outpatient clinic at ALAFIA- RHB s.r.o. located in Parník Policlinic in Černý Most, Prague. The methodology for obtaining the personal data and sports...
Change in breathing economics during exercise due to previous application of breathing exercises based on the Wim Hof method to warm up
MARKO, David
The Wim Hof method is a worldwide phenomenon nowadays. The aim of our work is to determine whether the application of breathing exercises based on WHM will affect the breathing economy in subsequent spiroergometry in adolescent runners (14 boys and 14 girls). Runners underwent two identical graded exercise tests within 3 days, while before one of the tests was performed breathing exercise containing three rounds of controlled hyperventilation and subsequent breath holds. The spiroergometric test consisted of 4 two-minute load phases 1, 2, 3, and 4 W-kg-1. After the application of breathing exercises, there was a significant effect on the kinetics of VO2 (5.09%, 3.11%, 1.55% and 3.39% increase in individual phases of the test). There was also a significant increase of VO2-HR-1 (7.89%, 5.02%, 6.78% and 6.9%). On the other hand, smaller values were measured for the RER, where significance was demonstrated in the first three phases (7.53%, 2.94%, 2.7% and 0.85%). The parameters VE, VT and BF were not significantly affected. No significant differences were measured in the change in the involvement of the breathing sectors. The results of our work show that due to breathing exercises, including controlled hyperventilation and breath holding, the kinetics of oxygen consumption can be accelerated, which can lead to facilitated endurance performance.

Zenkl, Adam ; Kašpar, Ladislav (advisor) ; Pádivý, Martin (referee)
The aim of the thesis is to map the biggest achievements of Czech middle-distance and long- distance runners in the period from the end of the Second World War to the present days. Through the study of at that time current materials, interviews with former and current athletes the most interesting facts from their athletic training will be pointed out. The thesis will also further elaborate the origin and the development of athletics in the Czech Republic. Athletics belongs to one of the basic sports. Unfortunately, nowadays it is losing its popularity compared to some other sports. The thesis will point out that athletics used to have and still has great things to offer. Last but not least, I would like to map the history of middle and long distances and also focus on the development of training methods on these distances. Procházka, Jiří ; Hanel, Lubomír (advisor) ; Řezníček, Jan (referee)
The Abstract The main purpose of my thesis is to make summary of conventional and unconventional livestock and their importace to man. My thesis brings in survey of the most significant kinds of breeds and their economic exploitation. A separate section is devoted to Czech breeding of essential kinds of livestock in reference to their conditions and animal production capacity. Out of unconventional groups of livestock, the attention is devoted to birds from out superorder runners. The importace of meat in man's nutrition is widely discussed. As a part of thesis, a public inquiry was compiled and analysed. It was interpreted on samples of students and workers of educational institutions. The inquiry discovers the influence of respondents'demografic field and other circumstances upon meat consummation. As a suplement to the biology education at primary and secondary schools, a CD- ROM is made containing questions to systematic zoology of birds from among superorder runners. Key words: domestication, livestock, runners, meat, inquiry

Comparison of results of spiroergometry on running and bicycle ergometer of athletes with different specialization
MARKO, David
A choice between a running or bicycle ergometer is not possible in every laboratory. Significant differences may appear in measuring results of ergometers with different load specificity. The aim of our thesis is to find out about the differences of values during the spiroergometric test at the running and bicycle ergometer in sportspeople with different specialization, adolescent categories of mountain cyclists and medium and long track runners. To carry out all the testing, the Functional Load Diagnostic Laboratory belonging to the Department of Sport Studies at the University of South Bohemia. All cyclists and runners underwent both tests during three days having an equal physical condition. The tested parameters included the VO2max value, breath volume, minute ventilation, breathing frequency, maximal heart frequency, and maximal watt performance. Our results proved significant differences of all examined parameters in runners. There was a significant difference in cyclists´ results noted in the following parameters: VO2max, breathing volume, minute ventilation, and watt performance. The average values of the most important parameter, VO2max, in runners, was equal to 60,6 ? 4,24 ml.min-1.kg-1 while running, and 56,0 ? 5,34 ml.min-1.kg-1 while cycling, however, cyclists reached the value of 56,6 ? 5,16 ml.min-1.kg-1 when running, and 61,30 ? 4,47 ml.min-1.kg-1 when cycling. The results of our thesis have proven factually as well as statistically significant differences of measuring results in both running and bicycle ergometer, depending on the type of exercise.
